Prawns pulao recipe is a simple and delicious one pot meal. A delicate, flavorful prawn and rice dish fit for a feast. Ready in 30 minutes it is a no-fuss, must-have recipe.

Prawns pulao is a one pot dish in which the spices are tempered first and then prawns and rice are cooked together. It is a lightly spiced, aromatic preparation of rice and prawns.

STEP BY STEP PRAWNS PULAO RECIPE INSTRUCTIONS WITH PHOTOS:
  1. Heat 3 tbsp oil in a pan. Add all ingredients under biryani spices and fry for 1-2 minutes till they release nice aroma.

2. Add ginger garlic paste and cook for 2 minutes till the raw smell goes away.

3. Add prawns, cook for 2 minutes, and add salt, chili powder, cumin (jeera) powder, turmeric, coriander (dhania) powder and mix well.

4. Wash and soak rice for 20- 30 minutes. Drain rice and add it to the prawns mixture.

5. Cook for 5 minutes and add coriander.

6. Add water (refer notes) and cook till done.

7. You can cook it using pressure cooker (3 whistles), rice cooker or on stove.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 250 grams Prawns Deshelled Deveined
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Salt
  • 1/2 tbsp Turmeric
  • 2 tbsp Chili Powder
  • 1 tbsp Cumin powder Jeera
  • 1 tbsp Coriander powder Dhania
  • 1 Cup Rice
  • 2 Cups Water
  • 2-3 tbsp Chopped coriander

Biryani spices

  • 1-2 Bay leaves
  • 2 1 inch Cinnamon pieces
  • 3 cloves
  • 2 Star anise (Anaspuvu)
  • 2 Japathri (Mace)
  • 2 Marathi moggu (Kapok buds)
  • 1/2 tbsp Shahjeera

Instructions

  • Wash and soak rice for 20- 30 minutes. Drain rice and add it to the prawns mixture.
  • Cook for 5 minutes and add coriander.
  • Add water (refer notes) and cook till done.
  • You can cook it using pressure cooker, rice cooker or on stove.
  • Serve with onions, raita or any curry.

Notes

  1.  Use water as per cooking instructions on rice packet. For basmati rice, it is 2 cups of water for 1 cup of raw rice. For white rice, it is 3 cups of water for 1 cup of raw rice.
  2. If using pressure cooker, cook for 3 whistles (time required to cook rice).
